Research Agronomist

About the Role

The research agronomist will be responsible for coordinating and delivering the Soil Carbon Co. agronomic program designed to trial microbial consortia developed in the SCC research program. Management and delivery of the organisation’s in-house greenhouse projects will make up a key component of the role, along with oversight and coordination of external field trials. The research agronomist will work closely with the laboratory-based research team, collecting relevant data and providing feedback on inoculum effects on plant growth and soil characteristics. The role is based in Orange, NSW.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the organisation’s glasshouse trials program 

  • Designing, planting and managing individual pot trials

  • Agronomic and soil related assessments & data collection

  • Greenhouse infrastructure system management

  • Overall project management for agronomic trials across the organisation

  • Management of external trial providers in line with standard protocols

  • Data management and statistical interpretation from greenhouse program 


About You 

  • Minimum 5 years work experience conducting agronomic research trials across grow chamber, glasshouse and/or field.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, or Agriculture.

  • Experience managing greenhouse programs over a diverse range of crop species/treatments.

  • Agronomic experience with common cropping species.

  • Knowledge of plant growth requirements, including water requirements, plant nutrition, plant health and pest control.

  • Meticulous in approach to executing experimental design and data collection.

  • Confidence in greenhouse infrastructure maintenance and system operation.

  • Ability to effectively plan timelines and budgets and deliver within deadlines.

  • Deep understanding of OH&S, safety and handling of chemical and biological materials.



  • $75,000 - $90,000 plus super depending on skills and experience

  • Office located on university campus with direct access to sports facilities

  • Opportunities for capacity building  

  • Regionally based in Orange, NSW

  • 2 year contract, with option to renew
